Last week Melissa Rosenberg said that the fourth (any maybe fifth) film in The Twilight Saga will be rated PG13 (12 in the UK), just like the first three. But since Breaking Dawn covers more controversial subjects like sex, childbirth and a lot more violence, fans are not happy with this decision. There has been no official announcement (STILL!) on the subject of Breaking Dawn, and therefore we still don’t know whether it will be one or two films, who will direct and what the rating will definitely be. However, fans are not happy that it might well skirt over the sensitive subjects, and have started a petition to get Summitt to raise the rating to an R (18 in the UK). Click over for more.

When speaking about Breaking Dawn last week, screenwriter Melissa said:

It’s completely doable. You don’t sacrifice story by cutting language. Nor do you sacrifice story by showing less blood or gore, or whatever it is that’s bringing you to an R rating. It doesn’t hurt it. That’s your audience. In this series you don’t sacrifice anything. If you’re capturing character, emotion, and emotional journey, you’re OK.

But the very angry petition created by Twilight fans states:

It is understood that not only is Breaking Dawn rated R in the book, the director should produce a film that mirrors it’s book in original form that is greatly loved by females (and some males) all over the world. Losing major details of the movie will definitely hurt the release of Breaking Dawn and disappoint fans everywhere.

With both Stephenie Meyer and Melissa Rosenberg saying the film with be rated PG13, is there any point in creating a petition to get the rating changed? I feel that they might lose a large portion of their audience if they raise the rating, but agree that there are some bits in Breaking Dawn that wont get covered in a PG13 film. Maybe they could release a directors cut that covers the more raunchy/scary/sensitive subjects? What do you think?

Nooo, LOADS of the fans are under 18 so I recon it SHOULD at least be a 15 although it would be better with the content of an 18 but then I couldn't see it:/

Yeah I agree, as much as I'd love to see all the plot explored in full it would lose a massive chunk of its fans

The book was intended for older people as well the movie should be. Make it rated R

I think that if the movie gets spilt into two parts then only one of them would have to be R rated/18 and the other could be a PG-13/15 (im all for an R-rated/ 18 movie as they will get everything in) The only part that really needs to be 18/R-rated, is Renesmee's birth, eseeing as in the book the sex scenes are only hinted at (then again, most of the sex scenes are before Renesmee's birth). The second part (again IF its in two parts and split were i think it should be - Jake imprinting on Renesmee) would mainly be the fight for Renesmee with the one sex scene hinted at so a PG-13/15 would suffice
