Catalina Sandino Moreno
Person Information
Name: Catalina Sandino Moreno
Biography: With her very first onscreen performance, Catalina Sandino Moreno was nominated for an Academy Award - not bad going. Nominated in the Best Actress category in the 2005 awards (she lost to Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby), she became the first Colombian and the third Hispanic actress to achieve such a career high and the first in a Spanish speaking movie for her mesmerising turn as the titular María Álvarez in Maria Full of Grace (2004). She beat 900 other hopefuls to the role, having moved to New York City from Bogota in her native Colombia, where she previously studied advertising at university. She has since gone on to star in a number of acclaimed films such as Fast Food Nation (2006), Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) and Steven Soderbergh's Che: Part One and Part Two and is set to appear as another Maria, this time a bloodsucking vampire from the past of Jasper Hale in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
